How do I ask for an appointment?

Is the request of an appointment necessary, even if it is for the second opinion or a general consultation?

Yes, always.

Is it possible to come to you to see the doctor without a previous request of an appointment?

No, you shouldn’t, except in cases of urgency (retention of urine, nephritic colic).

Shall I bring with me all the tests that I have of other medical visits when going for the first appointment?

Yes. It is suitable that you contribute the analyses and complementary explorations that you may have, even if they are old, since they can be of great help.

How many people can accompany the patient to the outpatient clinic?

We advise that one or two relatives should come, at most, with the patient. The presence of more persons during the consultation damages the patient - doctor relation and it can cause space problems in the waiting room.

If we have an emergency during a holiday or vacation period to whom shall we call?

Do you make robotic surgery or laparoscopic surgery?

Yes. We have experience in laparoscopic urological surgery, particularly in robotic radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, robotic partial nephrectomy for kidney cancer, and robotic reconstructive surgery (ureteral strictures, vesicourethral stenosis after radical prostatectomy).

In case I needed surgical treatment, where would it be conducted?

We perform all the surgical treatments every Tuesday in the San Rafael Universiy Hospital; there is a Unit of Intensive care available, a Unit for Immediate Cardiologic Attention, Hemodiálisis's Unit, and the whole necessary technology to confront any type of surgery, no matter how complex it is.

In case I needed surgical treatment, would Dr. Martínez-Piñeiro or some of his assistants operate on me?

Dr. Martínez-Piñeiro always fulfills the surgery personally.

Do you work with insurance companies?

No, we only accept private patients or patients holding a private insurance policy.

When is the payment of the medical honorarium done?

The payment of the medical consultation is realized the same day of the consultation to the secretary, María (credit cards are not admitted). The payment of the honorarium by surgical services is done usually in the outpatient clinic, once the surgery is performed and the patient discharged. The above-mentioned honorarium includes the assistants, surgery and all the medical visits during the postoperative period until discharge from the clinic.
